About Us
Somali Women and Child Care Association (SWCCA) is a national, nonprofit humanitarian organization that was founded in April 2012 and registered by the Federal Government of Somalia the same year with its headquarters in Mogadishu with branch offices in Baidoa of South West State and Walawayn.
The organization was founded by a group of like-minded Somalia women who saw the suffering and the burden women and children were experiencing in Somalia as a result of the over three decades of instability occasioned the war, inter-clan conflicts and natural disasters. Somali women and child care association is mainly involved in empowering Somali women and girls, aiming for gender equality and the eradication of all forms of discrimination against women and children.
Through empowering and mobilizing women participation in decision making process, the contribution to the development processes, the promotion of woman’s political, economic and civic rights and the expansion by providing legal support through social improving psychological wellbeing among women and girls, and combating gender-based violence also enhancing Child protection and child education.
SWCCA has focused for since establishment at promoting the social, educational, economic and political development of Somali women, and spend greater efforts in raising woman’s awareness of their legal rights in order to promote their participation in the decision-making processes, protect their rights and to encourage development.
The major goals of the organization are to end Gender based violence, promote gender equity and equality and strengthen the capacity of women at grass root level by establishing enabling, inclusive environment where no one is left behind.
We establish the level of awareness among the women and to equip marginalized women with information and knowledge on human rights. SWCCA focus on helping our partners improve their access to quality health care, education and economic opportunities.
Throughout the years, SWCCA have helped our partners obtain training in organic farming, leadership, conflict resolution, tailoring, managing cooperatives and many other skills.
SWCCA has been implementing various activities in the areas of human rights and good governance, civic education, Women political participation and election process by promoting gender equality, education, health and sanitation so as to empower and ensure the security of the livelihood for the poor of the poorest and the most vulnerable segment of our society.
The organization takes pride in actively empowering Somali women and girls and advancing their rights for gender equality and political participation, youth empowerment, women and elders and the eradication of all forms of discrimination to be able to effectively realize their dreams to fully participate in decision making processes and contribute to the development processes of their communities and the society at large.
