The Somali Women and Child Care Association (SWCCA) commemorated the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on February 6, 2025, in Galkayo, Somalia. The event was funded by the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) as part of its Protection Project, which integrates Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response with Child Protection initiatives in South Galkayo.

The commemoration aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of FGM, advocate for the protection of girls’ rights, and promote community-led efforts to end the practice. The event brought together local authorities, community leaders, activists, health professionals, and survivors, who engaged in discussions, educational sessions, and advocacy efforts to reinforce the commitment to eliminating FGM.

Through this initiative, SWCCA continues to strengthen community awareness, provide support to survivors, and work towards a safer environment for women and children in South Galkayo.
