On this International Day of Education, Somali Women and Child Care Association (SWCCA) stands in solidarity with global efforts to recognize education as a fundamental right and a critical engine of progress for societies worldwide. As an organization deeply rooted in the empowerment of women and children in Somalia, we understand the transformative power of education in breaking the cycles of poverty, conflict, and inequality that have long affected our communities.
Education is the cornerstone of sustainable development, peace, and stability. It empowers individuals with knowledge, skills, and values necessary to build a better life and contribute to the social, economic, and political development of their communities. Yet, despite its importance, millions of children and adults in Somalia and around the world are denied access to quality education due to various barriers, including conflict, poverty, gender discrimination, and lack of infrastructure.
Today, SWCCA reaffirms its commitment to advancing education in Somalia, with a particular focus on reaching the most vulnerable and marginalized populations. Our efforts encompass the rehabilitation and construction of safe and inclusive learning environments, teacher training, provision of learning materials, and advocacy for educational policies that prioritize access for all, especially girls and women who face significant obstacles in pursuing their education.
We believe that education is not only a right but also a hope and a promise for a better future. It is the key to empowering women and children with the agency to shape their destinies, contribute to their communities, and lead change. On this International Day of Education, we call on governments, international organizations, civil society, and communities to unite in a collective effort to ensure that every child, youth, and adult has access to quality education. Together, we can overcome the challenges that stand in the way of education for all and build a foundation for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in Somalia and beyond.
Let us remember that education is a right, not a privilege. It is our responsibility to uphold this right for every individual, regardless of their circumstances. By investing in education, we invest in the future of our children, our communities, and our world.
