SWCCA commemorated 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) a campaign which runs annually from the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women until Human Rights Day on 10th December. It is a time to increase global awareness and advocacy on the devastating impact of GBV and to renew commitments on actions to prevent, mitigate and respond to it. SWCCA celebrated with 60 IDP women and girls those who are vulnerable and risk of GBV issues in Mogadishu.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the campaign and two main themes highlighted. The UN Secretary-General’s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign’s theme ‘Orange the world: End violence against women now!’, focuses on advocacy for resources to eliminate GBV, while promoting the leadership of women and girls.
