On this , the Somali Women and Child Care Association (SWCCA) stands in solidarity with survivors, activists, and global communities in the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). As an organization deeply committed to the welfare and rights of women and children in Somalia, we recognize the urgent need to eradicate this harmful practice that violates the rights and undermines the health, dignity, and security of women and girls.

FGM is not only a severe health risk but also a stark symbol of gender inequality and an extreme form of discrimination against women. It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes and constitutes an extreme form of violence against women and girls. On this day, we reaffirm our dedication to creating a future where every girl can grow up free from the threat of FGM, empowered in her bodily autonomy, and able to realize her full potential.

SWCCA is actively engaged in comprehensive community education, advocacy, and support programs designed to eliminate FGM. Through our work, we aim to change perceptions, educate families and communities, and support legislation that protects the rights of all women and girls. We collaborate with community leaders, healthcare professionals, and government agencies to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to ending FGM.

Let this day serve as a reminder of the importance of our collective efforts. We call upon everyone – governments, organizations, communities, and individuals – to join us in our commitment to eradicate FGM and to work tirelessly towards gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

Together, we can end FGM and ensure a healthier, safer, and more equitable world for future generations. Let’s stand united in our resolve to say no to FGM and yes to the rights and well-being of all women and girls.
